Just Launched: AllanWhite.net!

I've gone and started a proper blog – yes, one can post comments now! Wait, another blog? Doesn't he have a couple going already? Doesn't he know Googling his name points the universe here?

The answer lies partly in sloth and in desire (a spicy concoction!). The sloth: this blog is borken and I just don't feel like fixing it. Upgrading it to Expression Engine isn't worth the templating effort, though I hate to see all the old posts just... sit here. I'm also sick, sick, sick of the mountains of spam I get at that domain. They spoil all that is good about the Net. Die, spammers, die!

The desire: to write about deeper and broader subjects – faith, politics, personal journeys – things I didn't feel comfortable writing about on this blog. The original intended audience was always work-oriented, and I wanted a client-safe blog. I want to separate my personal writings from my business and career writings. This is one way to do it.

I can't promise I'll always have time to post (3 kids, busy ministry, demanding job, you know the drill), but I can promise that I'll do my best to write and link to stuff worth your time. So, join me over to AllanWhite.net! I can't wait to hear from you.

Heart Made of Sound

My life is insane right now: too much work, travel, too much kids, not enough kids, heartache, love, sleeplessness, frustration. When I feel like that, it helps to just stop for a moment, and watch something like this.

Watching this makes me happy! I'm posting this for my kids today, especially for Trinity.

Listening: Cure Covers at CoverVille

When I was in high school and early college, The Cure was all the rage for the mopey teenage set. Yesterday and today I've been listening to covers of Cure songs on the CoverVille podcast, which is available free at the iTunes Store.

If you've never listened to the CoverVille podcast, check it out. It's free, invariably excellent, and never fails to render surprises. Old songs that I never would have listened to (or have grown out of with my old fogey ears) are revived in unexpected new ways.

Culturally speaking, this phenomenon - of repurposing and reuse - seems related to movie remakes. There may truly be nothing new under the sun.

Ride: Classic Fall Weather

Today I rode for first time in about 3 or 4 weeks. When I stop riding regularly, The System gradually breaks down - I forget where I put riding gear, stuff gets separated, bike maintenance slips. All that came together this morning: [still] can't find the helmet; fenders need to be put on; tires inflated; and clear lenses installed in the shades. I got there so late.

The rain wasn't so bad; the jacket and booties do a great job. The gloves I have are a bit thick, though. I do feel out of shape. The lungs burn just a bit more after, well, not excercising for nearly a month. This time of year is always the worst. It seems to be the busiest time of year, no matter what kind of job I'm doing. Discipline, discipline!

Bravia "Paint" ad: abstract painting for giants

Trinity has been drawing Giant Books lately: oversized books that dwarf the Giants that read them. Well, Trinity, here's probably how they'd paint, Pollock-style: 622 drums of environmentally-safe paint. Explosions. Megasplats!

Witness the new Sony Bravia spot and the 'making of' too. The hi-res version is great, and worth the download.
